Standard & Specialty Cold Headed Products
Abbott Interfast specializes in the manufacturing of standard and specialty precision cold headed parts, such as cold headed fasteners and screws, complete per customer specifications. Cold headed parts are created by “cold forming”, a manufacturing process by which wire is fed into a cold heading machine, cut to a pre-determined length, inserted into a die and upset to form a part. This process creates little to no waste. The cold heading process creates a stronger part due to the enhanced grain flow of the material.
Benefits of Cold Headed Parts
- Cold headed parts can reduce the need for secondary finishing because cold form products are solid and durable
- They are more economical
- The hardening of metal caused by pressure can increase tensile strength
